European telecommunication testbeds

Testbeds are becoming key to research and development of innovative
networks, applications and services in telecommunications.
This issue of Eurescom mess@ge presents selected views of
European experts on challenges, requirements, and opportunities of European
telecommunication testbeds.
European telecommunication testbeds -
Visions and initiatives
The growing complexity of telecoms networks and the increasing need to
take socio-economic aspects into account have led to intensive
collaborative testbed efforts in Europe. Eurescom mess@ge
editor-in-chief Milon Gupta provides an overview on European activities
in the testbed area.
Panlab - How to deliver an infrastructure
for a testbed federation
In the European Union there is a strong push for the interconnection of
independent testbeds and laboratories. A general framework for such an
interconnection has been defined by the recently finalised FP6 research
project Panlab. Read the report by Panlab coordinator Anastasius Gavras.
Opportunities of testbed federation -
Interview with Dr. Udo Bub
Eurescom mess@ge editor-in-chief Milon Gupta asked Dr. Udo Bub from
Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, how testbed federation is seen and done
at a large network operator and service provider.
Federating testbeds for experimentally driven research - The OneLab2
project
The Onelab2 project aims to develop and operate an open,
general-purpose, and sustainable large-scale shared experimental
facility. Read the report by OneLab2 project coordinator Serge Fdida.
The FEDERICA project - A federated infrastructure
for Future Internet research
FEDERICA is an EU-funded project under Framework Programme 7 (FP7) which
aims to create a scalable, Europe-wide technology-agnostic infrastructure in
order to support research experiments on new Internet architectures and
protocols. Read the report by Mauro Campanella.
