Product description

The Alcatel Parlay/OSA Gateway resides in between the 3rd party domain, consisting out of 3rd party Application Servers running 3rd party applications, and the underlying network. The Alcatel Parlay/OSA Gateway provides secured network access to the underlying network.

The Alcatel Parlay/OSA Gateway supports an open applications delivery model to provide secure mediation functions to interface with the network resources. It is based on the proven Alcatel Open Services Platform, and enables providers to seamlessly deliver applications based on standard interfaces, Parlay/OSA APIs, thereby ensuring the security and reliability of the underlying network.

The Alcatel Parlay/OSA Gateway supports the Parlay/OSA model, which imposes specific requirements on extendibility, manageability, programmability, scalability, security and commercial viability.

It is made up of:

The Parlay/OSA Gateway allows multiple clients to interface with the Parlay/OSA Gateway. Specific client information and data will be connected to specific Parlay/OSA Gateway resources.

Compliance

The Parlay/OSA Gateway allows the Third Party Developers community to create innovative services making use of the underlying network resources while guaranteeing the security and reliability of the network. The Parlay/OSA Gateway supports the Call Control Interface, User Interaction Interface and Mobility Interface. Additionally, the Parlay/OSA Gateway provides the Framework Interface.

The Parlay/OSA Gateway supports the Parlay V3.2 Architectural Model. All Parlay Interfaces are ‘compliant’ to the Parlay V3.2 specification.

The Parlay/OSA Gateway is compliant to:

3rd parties

The Alcatel Parlay/OSA Gateway product design and implementation will evolve aligned with market demand and standardisation (APIs) maturity. It is not Alcatel’s preference to provide Client applications or platforms but to assure via the adherence to standards, the easy interoperability of the Gateway with Client applications developed by Third Parties, leaving the choice for third party Client applications or platforms to its customers. Alcatel has proven Gateway interoperability with Client applications in a number of customer deployments and trials, and also has performed interoperability tests with third party Client Platforms in its Design Centres.

Scalability

The Open Services Architecture business of tomorrow will create a plethora of communication applications, which will demand more storage capacity and computing power. The A8601 Parlay/OSA Gateway in the network operator domain allows to support a few number of customers to many (hundreds, thousands) of customers.

Hardware / OS/ Middleware

Alcatel’s Parlay/OSA Gateway solution leverages the Intelligent Networks know-how in service architecture. The installed base of SLEEs and Management Platforms operating full IT based systems (Unix and Oracle/SUN for both SLEE and Management Platforms), prove the competence in service and platform design, testing and deployment. Operational capacities up to several hundreds of CAPS on full IT systems, indicate the sustained level of operator’s trust in the reliability and scalability of the service execution. Managing subscribers and revenue streams has brought Alcatel the knowledge to bring their solutions from the labs to a revenue-generating environment.

Alcatel’s telecom-industry proven platform and development environment has been generalised to support the new services’ requirements. Standard IT tools are used throughout the service lifecycle and on the execution platform itself.
